What we do
Who are HMK?
HMK Ltd was incorporated in 1992 by a small team of machining engineers. Now based in at our manufacturing site in Cheshire, England, HMK specialises in surface grinding, EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) and multi-component laser marking.
Our main focus has been in the development and manufacture of industrial machine knives made, in-full and in-part, from sintered Tungsten Carbide and other hard metal composites. In addition, we offer the same service on a wide variety of replacement Tungsten Carbide wear parts for high-speed processing machinery, increasing machine uptime, performance and reliability.
Our business is built upon a foundation of technical material expertise and we continually strive to expand our expertise to assist customers with solutions to their hard metal wear parts requirements and to reduce runtime costs by extending product life.
Close working relationships with our customers has enabled HMK to become one of the leading suppliers of Tungsten Carbide products to Blue Chip client base spanning the world. Traditional industries such as Tobacco, Rubber belts, Roof Tile dies and Food packing have recently been complemented with new markets such as Paper Straw knives and contract laser marking services. A common factor linking these industries is the high-speed at which the processes take place and the need for reliable machinery performance, as every minute that a machine is out of service can result in 1000’s of lost production units.
In the early part of 2016 HMK Ltd was acquired by Sheffield based knife maker, Arkote Ltd. The two businesses have a long standing relationship, supplying Tungsten Carbide knives to the Tobacco industry. Arkote is a world leader in knife supply to global processing industries and the HMK acquisition expands the total product scope and provides security for the future of HMK.
